Canon PowerShot SX10 IS Troubleshooting

The time and date stamp need to be reset every time the camera is turned on. A notice may appear to change the batteries even after the main batteries are replaced.

The lithium ion battery is a CR1220 model. Use this replacement guide for steps on how to change this battery.

Power button has no response when used.

Replace dead batteries with new ones.

Make sure the battery door closes tight and that nothing is blocking the door from closing. If the door will not latch closed use this replacement guide for changing the battery door.

Open the body of the camera and do a visual inspection of the connections and parts in the camera. Make sure and plugs or adapters are snug. See the tear down guide here for opening the body of the camera.

Control knob does not activate LCD screen when turned to the correct settings.

Replace bad batteries with new ones.

Open the body of the camera and the LCD screen compartment and check for loose connections.

The picture is blurry and none of the buttons or manual zoom operations work.

Replace bad batteries with new ones.

Dirt and grime can build up in the zoom mechanism. The mechanism can be cleaned following the manufacturers cleaning instructions. Use the tear down guide here to access the internal components.

If the mechanism is still not responding a new zooming lens can be installed.

Open the body of the camera and make sure there is no damage to the area near the zoom buttons. Check the connections and replace any damaged parts.

The settings do not change when the dial control is operated.

Open the body of the camera and check the connections around the dial. Clean gently if necessary, making sure the connections are not damaged.

Open the body of the camera and change the dial and connectors if there is damage.

Tripod will not screw into the adapter on the bottom of the camera.

Use a different tripod.

Clean the opening of the adapter with small tool. Make sure to not damage threads.
