My Problem

After a year and few months of use, my MacBook Pro started acting up. It started slowing down and would beachball most of the time. I also noticed that it would take forever to boot up. I tried reinstalling the OS and reset everything. After trying in vain to fix the problem myself, I decided to have it checked at an authorized service center. Their diagnosis is a hard drive failure and quoted SGD 700(USD 560) for the hard drive replacement and the service (since I am already out-of-warranty). Thinking that I could save a lot if I just buy the hard drive and replace it myself, I started searching the internet for how-tos which eventually led me here to iFixit.com.

My Fix

The process of replacing the hard drive was a breeze. The steps on the guide are easy to follow. In the end, I was able to save USD 376.

My Advice

None. Everything you need to know is written on the guide.
