My Problem

I have a Thinkpad P1 Gen 1. It is about six years old at this point, but still works great (other than the battery!). Note: this battery works for the Gen 1, too.

My Fix

All was super smooth and corresponded to iFixIt's guide. There are a few screws in the back of the case, four that hold the battery in, and a small connector. Everything can be done with a small Phillips screwdriver.

My Advice

1) Even though iFixIt says this battery is not compatible with the P1 Gen 1, I can confirm that it is (at least with my model of laptop). I checked before ordering: the Model Name and Part Number are exactly the same. The connector and dimensions are all perfect.

2) There are two electrical things to watch: first, the connector to the battery must be slid a bit to the left while disconnecting. Second, there are red & black wires at the bottom of the battery (for one of the speakers) that are routed between tabs of the battery casing. Remove these carefully when removing the old battery & carefully replace them on the new one.
