Introduction

Use this guide to replace a Traxxas TRX-4M (model 97074-1) shock that has become worn beyond repair.

Similar to a full-sized vehicle, a remote-controlled vehicle's shock is something that is heavily used, whether it be from sitting on a shelf to crawling on a course. Over time, this can lead to damage. If you notice continuous abnormal leaking of shock fluid or damage to the shock piston, you should replace the shock.

What you need

Remove the body of the Traxxas TRX-4M from the chassis.

Gently undo the wheel nut using the Traxxas 4-way wrench.
Remove the loose wheel nut by hand or using the Traxxas 4-way wrench.
Remove the tire from the drive shaft by hand.

Using the 3/8" hex key, remove the top screw of the shock.
Remove the bottom screw securing the shock.
Carefully remove the shock by hand.
While undoing the bottom screw, hold the bottom link in place to prevent the link from popping out of its position on the chassis.
Be aware of how you are handling the screwdriver to avoid injury.
