Surface Go 2 and 3 SSD Replacement

    • Follow the steps in the screen replacement guide up until you have removed the screen

    • Remove two Phillips 00 screws from the battery and apply insulating tape to stop it re-connecting

    • Remove the 6 Phillips 00 screws from the CPU thermal plate and pry it off

    • Use tweezers to pry off the metal shield from the SSD, located to the left of the display connector (upside down in this image)

    • Remove all screws and connectors from the motherboard, then carefully lift it out

    • The NVME (128GB or 256GB) models use a BGA291 PCIE 3.0 SSD, which has the NAND and SSD controller on the same chip. This one is a Kioxia BG4 256GB chip

    • The eMMC models (64GB) use a different ball layout (BGA153)

    • Remove the chip using hot air rework and flux
