Introduction
Here's how to replace a dead Surface Go 2 or 3 battery. This is a difficult repair as both the screen and battery are glued in place. Make sure you order the right battery as well as replacement adhesive!
Battery part number: DYNU01 (Go 2) or G16TA047H (Go 3). Both use the same connector, but a Go 1 battery will not work as the connector is different
What you need
-
-
Follow the steps in the screen replacement guide up until you have removed the screen
-
Be careful not to crack the screen or damage the touchscreen cables
-
-
-
Remove two Phillips 00 screws from the battery connecter
-
Lift up the connector and insulate it with tape, so that you don't accidentally reconnect the battery
-
-
-
Use 99% isopropyl alcohol or Ifixit adhesive remover to soften the adhesive under the battery
-
Tilt the device to make sure the adhesive remover flows underneath the battery, and leave it for 1-3 minutes
-
-
-
-
Use a plastic card or thin cutting wire to slice up the adhesive. Most of it is concentrated in the middle of each cell. Using a suction cup to pry on each cell can also help.
-
-
-
Peel off the old adhesive tape and clean the area with more isopropyl alcohol
-
You should also remove the old screen adhesive, both on the case and on the screen itself
-
-
-
Place new double-sided adhesive on the replacement battery, and press down to stick it in place
-
Install the screws onto the battery connector
-
-
-
Apply new adhesive to the screen, reconnect it, and apply firm pressure to adhere it
