Introduction
Go to step 1 ↓These explanations are intended to guide you through the steps for disassembling the Sony Alpha 7 II in order to fix a recurring problem with this model: the instability of buttons that appear randomly. This problem stems from the method used by Sony to connect all the upper components: a large flex cable folded haphazardly.
It's a defect that may be covered by insurances. If you have this option, use it! It's far less tedious than waging war against the flex cable octopus.
Any person brave enough for this battle should proceed with patience, as many elements are fragile. I also recommend organizing everything with a magnetic mat, since this model contains several different screws.
The name of the target piece is RL-1048-12. It's compatible with nearly everything in the A7 series. Select your replacement **with cable connectors**! There is a cheaper option without them, but that's closer to self-imposed torture than repair.
PS : If the cable I purchased holds up long term, I will include the purchase link (Aliexpress). If it doesn't, I will do some research until I find a reliable replacement to recommend.
Please note:
I have not yet worked out all the elements and details that matter for a repair job in the best conditions possible. I will continue working on it until I reach a quality that suits the community.

Hi! Thanks so much for this information. I’m about to give it a go and wondered how the repair is holding up? Would you post the aliexpress link?
Most of the ones I’ve found are called “top cover shutter power switch flex cable” but the one poster at the top is a mounted C board?
Thanks!
Hi! Sorry about this late response. The repair is holding as well as new, I'm glad!
I posted a link, but I hope you did it in the meantime? If so, how did it go?
i found multiple in aliexpress, here's the one i got
https://es.aliexpress.com/item/100500751...
BE carefull, ensure you put all screws with right dimensions, and most importantly, be carefull of the orientation of the "MODE SELECTOR" i closed mine and now i have 3 positions offset.
At least it works now
Thanks for the guide, managed to replace mine and it's now all working great finally.
Used the following from AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10050053... (the second option which says "Bundle: With All Parts")
The only main issue I have with the guide is the instructions around the LCD removal and reassembly, as it took a few tries to get it right.
