Repairing a broken handle (motor cover)

Introduction

Go to step 1 ↓

Parts:

      • Unfortunately, after a short time, the motor cover mount, which also serves as a handle, has broken.

      • The quite thin cast aluminum bars are both broken. The cast aluminum part is attached to the motor and is also the housing for the diaphragm compressor.

      • The broken-off upper parts are still stuck in the cover.

      • Spare part not available. Total economic loss?

    2. Repairing a broken handle (motor cover): step 2, image 1 of 1
      • Cut a piece of angle steel to length that connects both aluminum supports.

      • Drill 2 holes (6.5 mm diameter) into the angle piece such that one is on the part still attached to the motor and one is on the broken-off piece.

      • Drill 2 holes with a diameter of 5 mm into each piece of aluminum (the attached part and the broken-off part). Then cut an M6 thread into the aluminum.

      • Connect all parts using 4 short (12 mm) M6 screws.

      • The original screws in the handle are too long and would press against the angle steel. Replace them with screws of a suitable length.
