Introduction

If your backpack no longer secures properly because the Velcro strap is loose or detached, use this guide to repair the Velcro strap on your backpack. The Velcro strap keeps your backpack flap or pocket securely fastened by connecting the hook and loop surfaces. Over time the adhesive may weaken, preventing it from sticking properly. A damaged strap can cause the pocket or flap to open unexpectedly, risking loss of items or reduced functionality. In this guide, you will apply fabric adhesive to position the Velcro and then sew it back onto the strap to ensure a strong hold.

Using a pair of sharp scissors, carefully trim away any loose threads or frayed fabric from the strap and the material it was attached to.

Clean the Velcro strap and the corresponding area on the backpack with a cloth dampened with mild soap and water.
Let both surfaces dry completely before moving to the next step.

Apply a thin, even layer of fabric adhesive to the back of the Velcro strap.
Be sure to cover the entire surface, but avoid using so much glue that it seeps out from the edges.

Measure and cut an 18-inch length of thread.
Thread one end of the thread through the eye of a sewing needle.

Using your threaded needle, push the needle from the outside of the backpack fabric out through the inside of the reattached Velcro strap. Create several strong stitches back and forth to securely anchor the strap.
When finished, tie a secure knot on the inside of the fabric and trim the excess thread.
