What you need

    • Insert the end of a spudger or opening tool in the seam at the top of the controller.

    • Slide it around the edge to release the retaining clips.

    • Use the spudger to separate the front and back plastic outer shell of the controller.

    • Both panels should separate from the front of the bumpers.

    • This takes some patience to ensure the panels don’t crack.

    • Flip the controller so the bottom is facing up.

    • Use the spudger to separate the plastic covering on the hand grips.

    • Use a JIS #0 screwdriver to remove ten 10 mm screws from the mid-frame.

    • Keep screws organized.

    • Use your hands to pry the back panel of the controller.

    • You now have access to the back buttons (2 on each side).

    • Remove the two JIS #0 scews securing the battery.

    • Lift the actuators out of the way to access the screws beneath.

    • Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the two 6.9 mm screws under the voice coil actuators.

    • Remove the face cover from the controller.

    • The buttons may fall out in the process of removing the face cover. Be careful to not to lose them.

    • Now you have access to the internal components of the controller.

    • Use a JIS #0 screwdriver to remove 8 screws (4 on each side).

    • Keep the screws organized.

    • Unhook and push the old buttons out of the button openings in the controller shell.
