Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer (RW4012) Lens Replacement

Introduction

Go to step 1 ↓

This guide shows how to replace the lenses on Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer RW4012 smart glasses by hand. The lenses are press-fitted into the rim groove and are not connected to the electronics, so no screwdriver, prying tool or heat is needed.

Before you start, check the code printed inside the temple arm: it should read RW4012, followed by the size 50□22 or 53□22. Lenses for size 50 and size 53 are not interchangeable, and lenses for other Ray-Ban Meta references (RW4006, RW4008) do not fit this frame.

The frame contains a camera, LED, speakers, microphones and a battery. Switch the glasses off with the switch on the inside of the left temple arm and take them out of the charging case before you begin. Do not use the temple arms as levers and do not press on the camera or LED.

Video Overview

Video of the whole procedure on a matte black RW4012 (about 30 seconds, no voice-over).

    1. Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer (RW4012) Lens Replacement, Remove the old lens: step 1, image 1 of 1
      • Open the temple arms and hold the front of the glasses firmly. Place your index finger on the front of the rim so the frame does not flex too much.

      • With the thumb of your other hand, push the lens from the inside of the frame towards the outside, starting at the corner next to the bridge (nose side).

      • Apply firm, gradual pressure without sudden movements until the lens edge comes out of the rim groove and the lens is released.

      • Do not insert a screwdriver or any other tool between the lens and the frame, do not use heat, and do not use the temple arms as levers.

      • Repeat the same process for the other lens.

    2. Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer (RW4012) Lens Replacement, Check the empty frame and the new lenses: step 2, image 1 of 1
      • With both lenses out, check that the groove on the inside of each rim is clean and free of dirt before fitting the new lenses.

      • Each lens belongs to one side, and its curved face must point outwards. Original lenses carry the Ray-Ban logo in the upper outer corner; if your lenses have no logo, hold each one against the rim to check the shape and side before pressing it in.

    3. Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer (RW4012) Lens Replacement, Fit the new lens: step 3, image 1 of 1
      • Hold the glasses with the front facing you. Seat the upper outer corner of the lens (hinge side) in the rim groove first and check that the edge sits correctly in the groove.

      • Keep pressing the lens edge into the groove gradually with your thumbs, working towards the nose area and then along the bottom. Support the rim from behind with your other fingers so it does not flex unnecessarily.

      • Finish by seating the lower corner next to the nose. Once the lens is fully seated you will feel it held firmly in the groove. Repeat for the other lens.

    4. Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer (RW4012) Lens Replacement, Check that the lenses are fitted correctly: step 4, image 1 of 1
      • Gently run your finger around the whole edge of each lens. The edge should sit inside the frame groove all the way round, with no visible gap between the lens and the rim.

      • The lens must not rotate or move in the frame. If it feels loose, check that it is fully seated and that its size matches the number printed before the □ symbol inside the temple arm.

Conclusion

Switch the glasses back on and take a test photo or a short video to check that the camera and the other functions work normally. If a lens feels loose or rotates in the frame, check that its edge is fully seated in the groove and that it matches the size printed inside the temple arm (50 or 53).
