Introduction
Go to step 1 ↓My e-reader has been lying around for a few months and won't turn on or charge. The battery has probably been completely discharged. I found a battery with similar specifications and will describe the repair process here.
What you need
Tools
-
Spudger4.9
-
-
-
-
-
The back cover is only attached with clips and two magnets (green markings).
-
Place the e-reader in front of you with the back cover facing up. Run a pick along the gap to release the clips. Start in the upper left corner.
-
Lastly, release the clips on the left side.
-
Then flip the back cover to the left like a opening book, and the two magnets on the left side are easily released.
-
-
-
Remove the three pieces of yellow adhesive tape covering the battery and the cables leading to the battery connector. This is best done with the angled tweezers.
-
The left-hand piece of adhesive tape is stuck down with a little glue. You can peel this off using the pointed end of a spudger.
-
The other two pieces of adhesive tape are easier to remove.
-
-
-
The cables to the battery connector are secured with a little glue; remove it with the tip of the spudger.
-
Now I made a mistake—I didn't know how to remove the connector from the socket and pulled on it with blunt tweezers. That's definitely not the way to do it...
-
After a few attempts, I was able to remove the connector from the socket by levering it upwards with the tip of the spudger.
-
-
-
The battery is fairly firmly glued in place. My poor spudger suffered quite a bit, but after some vigorous prying, the battery eventually came loose.
-
Here you can see the location of the adhesive strips under the battery.
-
-
-
-
Insert the battery connector into the socket from above. This was a little difficult for me, so I used the flat end of the spudger to help.
-
Now test whether the e-reader works and if the repair was successful!
-
The light comes on, the book opens – everything is fine.
-
-
-
Now insert the battery and secure it with adhesive tape.
-
Replace the back cover and press down firmly all around the perimeter so that the clips snap into place.
-
One of my clips seems to have broken off, but the e-reader still holds together.
-
And from now on: always take good care of the battery, even if the e-reader is not used for a while. This article explains why this is necessary and how to do it.

Worth noting that I found that directly under the battery is the underside of the glass screen (with no cover at all).
When I removed the battery, the pressure from my spudger cracked the screen, and even though the battery replacement worked, the eReader is now unusable due to the screen being cracked!
Be careful removing the battery!
