Opening the Ortovox M2

Introduction

Go to step 1 ↓

This is a (very) short guide to dissecting the inside of an avalanche transceiver. Be careful: when you remove one of the first screws (which is necessary), you remove a small red sticker inside the screw, which marks the attempt (this could be bad for insurance purposes). Also, all the parts are soldered together, making it quite complicated to repair. However, it can be useful for giving it a little clean! Dirt gets in there easily...

      • To begin, use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the 3 screws from the back.

      • It is not necessary to unscrew the middle screw, but this can be done to clear the battery compartment.

      • Be careful when removing the cover; a small part at the bottom of the DVA is held by a spring.

      • If you wish to remove the headphone jack, you simply need to remove the bottom screw.

      • Since the other cables are soldered, you will need to use a soldering iron to do more… furthermore, the board also contains the system power switch (in yellow, 2nd photo)
