Opening the Bosch MUM4

Introduction

Go to step 1 ↓

The MUM4 series is an older line of Bosch swivel arm models. In order to perform repairs, the swivel arm must usually be opened.

      • Unplug the power cord!

      • Position the swivel arm so that you can lay it flat on the work surface with the underside facing up.

      • As a precaution, lay a cloth on the work surface.

      • Remove the five Torx T15 screws on the underside.

      • Carefully lift off the underside of the swivel arm. If it is stuck, use a plastic opening tool to help.

      • When reassembling, ensure that the power cable runs through the corresponding cutout.

      • Mark the setting of the rotary selector and carefully lift it out.

      • Watch out for the white push rod that connects the rotary selector to the PCB. It is fragile and can easily fall out.

      • Inserting the push rod during reassembly is a bit tricky. It is easier if you lift the entire motor unit up slightly. Insert one pin of the push rod into the selector wheel first, then the second pin into the corresponding hole on the PCB.

      • The swivel arm is open and you can continue working on the motor or the drive.

      • Watch out for the other half of the cover on the swivel arm; it detaches easily, especially when you lift the device off the work surface.
