Go to step 1 ↓The gas cylinder in an office chair provides the chair with the ability to change its desired height with ease. If the height of an office chair is no longer adjustable, the gas cylinder may need to be replaced. This guide will provide its readers with the information and supplies required to replace the gas chamber in any generic office chair. This process with take roughly 30 minutes to complete with a moderate difficulty. The required tools for this replacement are the new gas cylinder, a torque wrench, WD-40, and a drill/screw driver. After the completion of this process, the reader will have successfully replaced their office chair's gas cylinder.

Remove the retaining clips or unscrew the nuts and bolts with a wrench or drill.

Remove the base of the chair.

Place a pipe wrench on the gas cylinder, and spray it with WD-40 to lubricate it and make it easier to remove.

Twist and pull the wrench to loosen the cylinder and remove it from its place.

Look up the chair's part number to find which gas cylinders are compatible with your chair.

Place the tapered part of the cylinder into the column and rotate it into place.

Reconnect the base of the chair.

Place the chair upright and adjust the chair to your preferred height. Test it out by sitting on it.
