Introduction

Use this guide to remove, clean, and refit the dispenser drawer on a Neue integrated washing machine. The dispenser drawer, detergent drawer, or detergent dispenser holds detergent and fabric conditioner before they flush into the wash. Over time, it can collect powder residue, conditioner residue, residue, and mold, which can wash into clothes or block the dispenser jets. This guide was written for a Neue integrated washing machine, and other Neue models may have small differences.

What you need

1. Step 1 Prepare the washing machine

  Turn off the washing machine and unplug it if the plug is accessible.
  
  Don't put fingers or tools into the dispenser cavity while the machine is powered or running.
  
  Gather a brush, a cloth, and hot, soapy water.
  
  Use an brush, not one that will be used for brushing teeth again.
  
  Let the hot, soapy water cool if it's too hot to touch comfortably.

2. Step 2 Remove the drawer

  Pull the dispenser drawer straight out until it stops.
  
  Look at the back of the drawer opening, on the top-left side, for the small release button.
  
  Press the release button down gently.
  
  Keep the button pressed and pull the detergent drawer straight out of the washing machine.

3. Step 3 Remove the fabric softener level indicator

  Remove the fabric softener level indicator from the drawer if you want better access for cleaning.
  
  Set the indicator aside so it doesn't get lost while you clean the drawer.
  
  Don't force the indicator if it feels stuck, because it may crack or break.

4. Step 4 Clean the dispenser drawer

  Scrub the dispenser drawer with a brush and hot, soapy water.
  
  Remove mold, residue, detergent powder residue, and fabric conditioner residue from every compartment.
  
  Wipe the drawer with the cloth until it is clean before reinstalling it.
  
  Clean the fabric softener level indicator before reinstalling it if you removed it.

5. Step 5 Clean the dispenser cavity

  Inspect the inside of the dispenser drawer cavity before reinstalling the drawer.
  
  Use a damp, soapy cloth to scrub inside the cavity, especially around the jets at the top.
  
  Blocked top jets can stop detergent or conditioner from flushing through properly.
  
  Use a brush inside the cavity only if you can keep a firm grip on it.
  
  Don't drop the brush down the hole inside the cavity, because it could damage the washing machine.

6. Step 6 Reinsert the drawer

  Fit the dispenser drawer into the grooves in the drawer opening.
  
  Press the release button at the back if the drawer needs extra clearance.
  
  Slide the drawer all the way in until it sits fully home.
  
  If the drawer binds, pull it back out, align both sides in the grooves, and try again without forcing it.

7. Step 7 Check the drum and door seal

  Open the washing machine door.
  
  Spin the drum by hand to check that it turns freely.
  
  Check the rubber door seal for debris, blockages, and metal items such as rusty bolts.
  
  Remove any debris from the seal before using the washer.
  
  Scrub the rubber seal with the damp, soapy cloth.
  
  Use the brush on the rubber seal if it is very dirty.

8. Step 8 Run an empty hot wash

  Close the door and make sure the dispenser drawer is fully installed.
  
  Run the washer empty on the hottest setting available, such as a 90 °C wash or Drum Clean program if the machine has one.
  
  Don't add clothes during this cleaning cycle.
  
  This flushes residue through the washing machine so it is ready for the next load.
  
  The door glass and water can get hot during this cycle, so keep children and pets away.

9. Step 9 Troubleshoot common issues

  If the drawer won't come out, pull it only until it stops and press the top-left release button fully down while pulling.
  
  If the drawer won't slide back in, check that both sides are sitting in the grooves and press the release button for extra clearance.
  
  If detergent or conditioner still doesn't flush through, clean the top jets in the dispenser cavity again.
  
  If residue or mold returns quickly, scrub the drawer and run an empty hot wash more often.
  
  If the drum doesn't spin freely or debris is trapped in the rubber seal, remove the debris before using the washer.
