What you need

    • Power off the phone by holding the volume and power button simultaneously.

    • Remove the SIM card tray with a paperclip or a SIM card tool.

    • Slide an opening pick around the perimeter of the phone to break through and loosen the adhesive holding the outer case in place.

    • Use an opening tool to release the clips securing the front and back casing together.

    • Don't remove the case yet!

    • Use an iOpener over the Motorola Logo for about 1-2 minutes to warm and loosen the adhesive to separate it from the outer casing.

    • Gently remove the plastic outer case, while holding your finger onto the Motorola logo where the fingerprint sensor is.

    • Set the outer case aside.

    • Use a Torx T5 screwdriver to remove nineteen 3.9 mm screws from the midframe.

    • Be careful not to lose them! They are very small.

    • Place a spudger or an opening tool under the edge of the battery connector and pry straight up to disconnect it.

    • Remove the battery cable using an opening pick or tweezers. It may also pop right off.

    • Slide a thin, ESD-safe pry tool or angled tweezers under the metal neck of the coaxial cable connector (as close to the head as possible) and lift straight up from the board.

    • Heat an iOpener and place it on the edges of the screen to soften the adhesive.

    • Heat the iOpener for 30 seconds at a time. Let it sit on the phone edges for 1-2 minutes each.

    • Be careful not to overheat the iOpener as it can explode. It also gets pretty hot, so use oven mitts if necessary.

    • Insert an opening pick under the screen very gently.

    • It should insert easily. Do not use excessive force.

    • If it is too difficult to insert, apply the iOpener to the edges of the screen.

    • Slide the pick around all edges to pry off the screen.

    • Remove the screen gently and any residual adhesive.

    • If the screen doesn't come off easily by hand, use a suction tool to pry it off.
