Introduction
If your Lenovo ThinkPad L460 has run time is no longer sufficient for your needs without being connected to power, the battery health software reports a poor condition, or the battery shows physical damage or swelling use this guide to replace the battery.
The battery is the laptop’s main energy source in the absence of power source. If the battery is faulty and had drained completely laptops would not work without power source. Lenovo ThinkPad L460 has both external and internal batteries. Before replacing the battery, check the Lenovo ThinkPad L460 troubleshooting pages for possible solutions.
Before You Begin:
- Save any work that is not already saved on your device.
- Backup any important data in an external hard disk.
- Unplug and power off the device.
- Choose a clear workspace to avoid any electrical hazards.
What you need

Shut down your Lenovo ThinkPad L460 completely.

Disconnect the AC power adapter.

Disconnect all connected cables and devices.

Use your two thumbs to push the two locking latches to the left and the right of the battery to the unlocked position.

While holding the latches open, slide the battery out of the connector to remove it.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order. Take your e-waste to an R2 or e-Stewards certified recycler.
