Introduction
Simple guide. If your device has a battery installed, disconnect it before proceeding.
- RAM type: DDR4 SO-DIMM
- Max supported RAM (usually 32GB for E480)
- Number of slots: 2
What you need

Shut down the laptop completely, Unplug the charger, Hold the power button for ~5 seconds (to discharge remaining power)

Flip the laptop over, Loosen all visible Phillips screws on the bottom cover. (They are captive screws, so they won’t come out fully)

Use a plastic pry tool to carefully separate the bottom cover. Start from a corner and work your way around. Lift the cover off. Please be careful, and do not damage your precious ThinkPad.

Locate the internal battery connector. Gently unplug it from the motherboard. This reduces risk of short circuits.

Find the RAM modules near the center of the motherboard. You should see: One or two sticks installed, Metal retaining clips on the sides

Incase you are just adding RAM, no need to remove the RAM sticks installed.

Remove Existing RAM (if needed) Push the metal clips outward. The RAM stick will pop up at an angle. Slide it out gently.

Align the notch in the RAM stick with the slot. Insert at a slight angle (~30°) Press down until the clips snap into place. Make sure it sits flat and secure. DO NOT BREAK THE RAM STICKS.

Place the bottom cover back on. Press around edges until it clicks. Tighten all screws.

Power on the laptop. Enter BIOS (F1 on startup) or boot into Windows (Task Manager > Performance > Memory) Check that the new RAM is detected.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
