Lenovo ThinkPad E15 Gen 2 Display Assembly Replacement

Introduction

If your Lenovo ThinkPad E15 Gen 2 (models: 20T8, 20T9, 20TD, 20TE) has a cracked screen, dead pixels, or flickers, use this guide to replace the display.

Note: This guide shows how to replace the screen assembly, including the display panel, plastic bezel, exterior case, camera, and sensors as one unit. This guide is not for the display panel itself.

What you need

    • Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver to loosen the eight captive screws securing the lower case.

    • The screws are captive and should not have the ability to be taken out.

    • Insert an opening pick into the seam between the lower case and chassis.

    • Slide the pick around the entire perimeter until the lower case fully releases.

    • Remove the lower case.

    • When reassembling, place the lower case on top of all the clips and push down around the edges until all the clips are engaged.

    • Pull the battery connector directly out of its socket.

    • With a Phillips #1 screwdriver, remove the five 6.5 mm-long screws on the two display hinges.

    • Lift the holding latch and disconnect the display connector on the motherboard.

    • Locate the Wi-Fi card.

    • Disconnect the 2 antenna cables from the Wi-Fi card.

    • Remove the display assembly.

    • During reassembly, check to make sure no cables are underneath the hinges prior to putting the screen back in the hinges.
