Introduction

This guide explains how to replace or upgrade the RAM module in a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 (14IML05). Replacing the RAM can improve system performance, responsiveness, and multitasking capability.

Before beginning the repair, power off the laptop completely and disconnect the charger.

Component Damage: Do not force open plastic clips; they may break.

What you need

1. Step 1 RAM
  Power off the laptop completely before beginning the replacement.
  
  Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the ten captive screws securing the bottom cover.
  
  Captive screws shouldn't be removed.
  
  Insert a plastic opening tool into the seam between the bottom and top cover and slide it around the perimeter to release the clips holding them together.
  
  You may hear a clicking or cracking when releasing the clips.
  
  Remove back panel.

3. Step 2
  Use the point of a spudger to push on alternating sides of the battery connector to "walk" it out of its socket on the motherboard.
  
  It may take a lot of alternating before the connector comes out. Be patient, and don't pull on the cables.

4. Step 3
  Push the metal retaining clips away from the RAM chip.
  
  The RAM chip will pop up at an angle.
  
  Hold the RAM module by its edges and pull it straight out of the slot.
  
  When installing the new RAM module, align the notch on the new SODIMM with the key in the slot. Insert the RAM at a slight angle. Press the module down until the clips lock into place.
