What are the two items inside the water resin?

There is the round item, and next to it an oblong item. I am really confused

The round item with 3 screws is the built in filter. The oblong item is the water level gauge.

I just ordered a filter starter kit. Do I just insert the kit on top of the round item?

I bought a Kuerig tall handle starter kit with charcoal filters. Tried install it over the existing built in filter, it didn’t fit. I think the round filter has to be removed in order to use the starter kit.
