Introduction
This guide explains how to remove a damaged needle and install a replacement needle on a Kenmore 385 series sewing machine. It also demonstrates the correct threading procedure using the automatic needle threader. Damaged needles can cause skipped stitches, thread breakage, or damage to fabric. Following these steps will ensure that the needle is installed correctly and that the machine is threaded properly using the automatic needle threader.

Use small pliers to loosen the needle clamp screw by turning it counterclockwise.

Remove the broken needle by pulling it straight down and out of the needle clamp.

Insert the new sewing machine needle into the needle clamp with the flat side facing the back of the machine.

Use the small pliers to tighten the needle clamp screw by turning it clockwise.

Begin threading the machine by placing the thread through the first thread guide and pulling it downward.

Pull the thread downward through the second tension guide, then guide it back upward.

Guide the thread around the small hook on the needle threader, then release the lever to pull the thread through the needle.
