How to Flatten a Warped Jacket Zipper Track

Lay the jacket out flat on an ironing board or another heat-safe surface.

Use a warm iron and gently press the area around the zipper so everything lies flat, always pushing the iron away from yourself rather than dragging it towards yourself.

Use a pair of scissors to start removing the zipper from the jacket. Try to cut as straight as possible during this process.

Place the jacket back onto the ironing board.

Grab your iron and re-iron the fabric where the zipper was removed. Use steady, gentle pressure to smooth out any ridges or bumps left behind.

Place the zipper pieces on the ironing board. Carefully press the zipper with a warm iron, focusing on keeping the zipper and surrounding fabric as flat and smooth as possible.

Use a sewing machine to sew the zipper onto a piece of scrap fabric. The scrap should be big enough to leave at least one inch of fabric around the perimeter of the zipper.

If needed, cut the fabric to about 1 inch around each side of the zipper.

Carefully cut the fabric along the center of the zipper using a pair of scissors.

Sew the zipper back into the jacket using your sewing machine. Stitch slowly along each side of the zipper, keeping your stitches straight and close to the edge for a clean finish.
