Introduction
The E25 error on a Siemens dishwasher can appear when the pump filter is blocked and wastewater can't drain. Cleaning the pump filter, also called the drain filter or sump filter, and checking the wastewater pump impeller or pump propeller can restore draining and improve washing performance. If the dishwasher still doesn't drain after the filter and impeller are clear, check the drain hose and sink U-bend for blockages. This guide covers a common Bosch and Siemens style dishwasher layout, so other models may have minor differences.
What you need
-
Step 2 Remove the trays
-
Open the dishwasher door and pull the lower tray straight out on its rollers.
-
Remove the cutlery basket or tray if it blocks access to the filter.
-
Pull the upper tray outward until the wheels reach the small stop at the end of each runner.
-
Lift the tray over the stop, roll the remaining wheels over the stop, and place the tray on the floor.
-
-
Step 3 Remove the pump filter
-
Locate the round pump filter in the bottom of the dishwasher tub.
-
Turn the filter anticlockwise a few turns until the catch releases.
-
Lift the whole filter mechanism out of the sump.
-
-
Step 4 Remove standing water
-
Place a bucket beside the dishwasher.
-
Use a sponge to soak up water from the filter well and squeeze it into the bucket.
-
Repeat until the filter well is empty and the pump cover is easy to reach.
-
-
Step 5 Remove the pump cover
-
Use a metal spoon as a blunt lever behind the pump cover clip.
-
Lever the clip outward until it pops free.
-
Grip the loose clip with your fingers and pull the cover upward and toward you.
-
-
Step 6 Inspect the impeller
-
Look into the pump opening at the bottom of the sump to find the impeller.
-
Turn the impeller with a finger and confirm that it spins freely.
-
Remove any debris, dirt, or long hair from the pump opening.
-
Slide the pump cover downward into place and push it inward until the clip pops in.
-
-
Step 7 Scrape the filter debris
-
Use a brush to scrape food, grease, and dirt from the filter into a bin.
-
Remove as much loose debris as possible before washing the filter.
-
-
Step 8 Wash the filter
-
Add washing up liquid to hot water in a bowl.
-
Scrub the filter parts with the brush until no dirt remains.
-
Use a sponge to wipe away any remaining residue.
-
Clean both filter pieces if the mechanism has separated.
-
Push the filter pieces back together until they clip easily into place.
-
-
Step 9 Reinstall the filter
-
Lower the clean filter into the sump and slide it into its seat.
-
Push it down gently without forcing it.
-
Turn the filter clockwise until it tightens and the two arrows line up.
-
-
Step 10 Reinstall the trays
-
Slide the lower tray straight in on its rollers.
-
Use two hands to guide the upper tray wheels onto the runners.
-
Lift the wheels over the runner stops and roll the tray into the dishwasher.
-
-
Step 11 Prepare for drain hose checks
-
Pull the dishwasher out far enough to reach the drainage pipe at the back.
-
Place a bucket and sponge under the drainage area because water will spill.
-
-
Step 12 Inspect the drain hose
-
Find the drain hose coming out of the back of the dishwasher.
-
Hold the hose end over the bucket and empty any water or loose debris into it.
-
Look down the hose end and clear any obvious blockage or residue.
-
-
Step 13 Inspect the U-bend
-
Place a plastic tray under the sink U-bend to catch water.
-
Undo the hand-tight plastic nuts on the U-bend by turning them by hand.
-
Remove only the pipe section needed to inspect the U-bend and attached waste pipe.
-
Release the upper retaining clip if the pipe section needs to come away from the wall.
-
Empty excess water into the bucket or sink and check the pipe for residue or blockages.
-
-
Step 14 Refit the pipework
-
Fit the U-bend pipework back into position.
-
Hand-tighten the plastic nuts until snug.
-
Put the dishwasher waste hose back into the drain connection.
-
Restore power and run a short drain or rinse cycle while checking the hose and U-bend for leaks.
-
Cleaning the filter regularly and scraping large food scraps from dishes helps keep the drain path clear and maintain washing efficiency. If the E25 error remains after the filter, impeller, drain hose, and U-bend are clear, the dishwasher may need further diagnosis. Repair didn't go as planned? Ask our Answers community for help.
