How to Fix the Frigidaire Stove F11 Error Code

Video Guide
This guide was transcribed from a YouTube video.

What you need

    • Gather isopropyl alcohol, cotton swabs, a headlamp, a 1/4 inch nut driver, a Phillips screwdriver, and a #6 Robertson screwdriver.

    • Turn off the stove breaker before moving or opening the stove.

    • Let the stove cool completely, pull it out only as far as needed, and unplug the power cord.

    • Keep the power cord and any gas line from stretching, kinking, or pinching while moving the stove.

    • Use a headlamp or flashlight if the area behind the stove is hard to see.

    • Use a 1/4 inch nut driver and a #6 Robertson screwdriver to remove the six screws from the rear panel.

    • This stove used two 1/4 inch hex-head screws and four #6 Robertson screws, but other models may differ.

    • Leave the top middle screw in place until the other screws are out.

    • Support the panel while removing the top middle screw so it doesn't fall.

    • Lift off the rear panel to expose the back of the control module.

    • Take reference photos of the control module, screw locations, and wire positions before removing the module.

    • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the control module.

    • Place the screws in a small dish so they don't get lost.

    • Pull the loosened control module out just enough to reach the wire plugs.

    • Take a clear photo of every plug from left to right so the wiring can go back in the same places.

    • Release any retaining clips before pulling the connectors off.

    • Pull on the connector bodies, not the wires, to avoid damaging the wiring.

    • Unplug every connector, including the grounding wire fourth from the left.

    • Set the control module on a clean, dry work surface.

    • Peel the black plastic front face off the control module.

    • Peel only the black plastic layer, not the small circuit board behind it.

    • Work slowly around sticky areas until the contact surface is exposed.

    • Inspect the exposed contacts for grease, moisture, dirt, or dark spots.

    • Clean every contact, even if only one or two look dirty.

    • Pour a small amount of isopropyl alcohol into a clean small dish.

    • Keep isopropyl alcohol away from flames and hot surfaces, and don't restore power until it has evaporated.

    • Dip a cotton swab in the alcohol and scrub one exposed contact at a time.

    • Rewet the cotton swab as needed and clean every bit of the contact surface.

    • Switch to a fresh cotton swab when the swab becomes dirty.

    • Use isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs to clean the matching contact areas on the back of the plastic front face.

    • Clean the spots where the plastic face lines up with the circuit board contacts.

    • Keep cleaning each spot until the contact area looks clean.

    • Let the alcohol dry completely before reassembling the control module.

    • Place the plastic front face back onto the circuit board.

    • Line it up carefully so the buttons sit in the correct places.

    • Press the face down across the surface so it sticks to the board.

    • Check the alignment before installing the control module in the stove.

    • Use the reference photos to reconnect the plugs to their original sockets.

    • On this model, connecting the red plug first helps hold the control module while the other plugs are connected.

    • Push each plug in until it is fully seated.

    • Give each connector a gentle tug to confirm it is snug, but don't pull hard.

    • Slide the ground wire back onto its contact unless the contact is badly corroded.

    • Don't use the stove with a loose or corroded ground connection.

    • Set the control module back into position and line up the screw holes.

    • Use a Phillips screwdriver to reinstall the four control module screws.

    • Tighten the screws until the module is secure, but don't overtighten them.

    • Set the rear panel against the back of the stove and line up the holes.

    • Install the top middle screw first so the panel can support itself.

    • Use the 1/4 inch nut driver and #6 Robertson screwdriver to reinstall the remaining five screws in their original locations.

    • Confirm the rear panel is secure before moving the stove.

    • Plug the power cord back in.

    • Slide the stove back into place without pinching the power cord or any gas line.

    • Turn the breaker on.

    • Check the display and listen for the beeping.

    • The F11 error and beeping should be gone if the contact cleaning worked.
