How to Fix the Bosch Dishwasher E25 Error Code

Video Guide
This guide was transcribed from a YouTube video.

What you need

    • Unplug the dishwasher from the wall outlet or switch off its circuit breaker before opening the sump or drain pipework.

    • Keep a bucket and sponge nearby if there is standing water in the bottom of the dishwasher.

    • Open the door and roll the bottom tray straight out on its runners.

    • Pull the top cutlery tray outward until the front wheels reach the end stops.

    • Lift the tray over the end divot, move the second set of wheels over the stop, and set the tray on the floor.

    • Unload the top tray if it feels heavy.

    • Find the round filter assembly in the bottom of the dishwasher tub.

    • Turn the filter counterclockwise a few turns until the catch releases.

    • Lift the whole filter assembly out of the sump.

    • A dirty filter can stop water draining and leave dishes dirty.

    • Use a sponge to soak up the excess water in the sump.

    • Squeeze the water into a bucket and repeat until the sump is empty.

    • Removing the water gives clear access to the wastewater pump cover and impeller.

    • Insert the bowl of a sturdy metal spoon behind the pump cover clip.

    • Lever the clip outward until it pops free.

    • Pull the cover upward with your fingers and slide it toward you.

    • Use a strong spoon because a flimsy spoon can bend.

    • Look into the bottom of the pump opening for debris, dirt, or long hair.

    • Use a fingertip to gently turn the impeller and confirm it spins freely.

    • The pump area may contain sharp debris, so keep your fingers where you can see them.

    • Wear protective gloves if you need to remove sharp debris from the pump opening.

    • Remove any debris that could stop the impeller from spinning.

    • Slide the pump cover downward, push it inward, and listen for the clip to pop into place.

    • Hold the dirty filter over a bin.

    • Use a brush to scrape as much debris and dirt from the filter as you can.

    • Don't rinse heavy food buildup into a sink, because it can block the sink drain.

    • Fill a bowl with hot, soapy water.

    • Scrub the filter assembly with a brush until the mesh and plastic surfaces are clean.

    • Use dish soap to cut through greasy buildup.

    • If the filter parts separated during cleaning, push them back together until they clip into place.

    • Place the clean filter assembly back into the sump.

    • Push it down gently and don't force it.

    • Turn the filter clockwise until it tightens and the two arrows line up.

    • The aligned arrows show the filter is locked in properly.

    • Slide the bottom tray back into the dishwasher on its rollers.

    • Use two hands to guide the top tray back onto its runners.

    • Make sure the same height wheels are seated on both sides of the top tray.

    • The different height wheels let the top tray sit higher or lower, but both sides must match.

    • If the dishwasher still doesn't drain, pull it out far enough to reach the drain hose at the back.

    • Keep the power disconnected and don't strain the hoses or power cord while moving the dishwasher.

    • Use a bucket and sponge, because water may spill from the hose.

    • Empty the drain hose into the bucket and check the hose end for obvious blockages.

    • Leave the hose resting in the bucket while you inspect the U-bend.

    • Put a plastic tray under the U-bend pipework to catch water.

    • Undo the hand-tight plastic collars on the U-bend by hand.

    • Remove only the pipe section needed to check inside the U-bend.

    • Pour excess water into the sink and inspect the pipe for residue or buildup.

    • The U-bend is a common place for blockages because debris settles there.

    • Refit the U-bend pipework to the wall connection.

    • Hand-tighten the plastic collars until they are snug.

    • Don't use pliers or overtighten the collars, because the plastic threads can be damaged.

    • Reconnect the dishwasher waste pump hose to the drain connection.

    • Do not leave the waste pump hose disconnected, or water will pour onto the floor during draining.

    • Wipe up spilled water before restoring power.

    • Plug the dishwasher back in or turn the circuit breaker back on.

    • Run a drain or rinse cycle and check that water drains without leaks.

Conclusion

If the E25 error or drainage problem continues after the filter, impeller, drain hose, and U-bend are clear, the dishwasher may need further diagnosis of the drain system or pump. Repair didn't go as planned? Ask our Answers community for help.
