Introduction
The E25 error on a Bosch dishwasher means the pump filter is blocked or the drain path is restricted. Cleaning the pump filter, sump filter, or drain filter lets water flow out properly, improves wash performance, and can help avoid an unnecessary service call. This guide also covers checking the wastewater pump impeller, drain hose, and U-bend for blockages. This procedure was written for a Bosch dishwasher with a common sump filter layout, and some Bosch or Siemens models may have minor differences.
What you need
-
Step 1 Disconnect power
-
Keep a bucket and sponge nearby if there is standing water in the bottom of the dishwasher.
-
-
Step 2 Remove the trays
-
Open the door and roll the bottom tray straight out on its runners.
-
Pull the top cutlery tray outward until the front wheels reach the end stops.
-
Lift the tray over the end divot, move the second set of wheels over the stop, and set the tray on the floor.
-
-
Step 3 Remove the filter
-
Find the round filter assembly in the bottom of the dishwasher tub.
-
Turn the filter counterclockwise a few turns until the catch releases.
-
Lift the whole filter assembly out of the sump.
-
-
Step 4 Remove water from the sump
-
Use a sponge to soak up the excess water in the sump.
-
Squeeze the water into a bucket and repeat until the sump is empty.
-
-
Step 5 Open the pump cover
-
Insert the bowl of a sturdy metal spoon behind the pump cover clip.
-
Lever the clip outward until it pops free.
-
Pull the cover upward with your fingers and slide it toward you.
-
-
Step 6 Check the impeller
-
Look into the bottom of the pump opening for debris, dirt, or long hair.
-
Use a fingertip to gently turn the impeller and confirm it spins freely.
-
Remove any debris that could stop the impeller from spinning.
-
Slide the pump cover downward, push it inward, and listen for the clip to pop into place.
-
-
Step 7 Scrape debris from the filter
-
Hold the dirty filter over a bin.
-
Use a brush to scrape as much debris and dirt from the filter as you can.
-
-
Step 8 Wash the filter
-
Fill a bowl with hot, soapy water.
-
Scrub the filter assembly with a brush until the mesh and plastic surfaces are clean.
-
Use dish soap to cut through greasy buildup.
-
If the filter parts separated during cleaning, push them back together until they clip into place.
-
-
Step 9 Reinstall the filter
-
Place the clean filter assembly back into the sump.
-
Push it down gently and don't force it.
-
Turn the filter clockwise until it tightens and the two arrows line up.
-
-
Step 10 Reinstall the trays
-
Slide the bottom tray back into the dishwasher on its rollers.
-
Use two hands to guide the top tray back onto its runners.
-
Make sure the same height wheels are seated on both sides of the top tray.
-
-
Step 11 Check the drain hose
-
If the dishwasher still doesn't drain, pull it out far enough to reach the drain hose at the back.
-
Use a bucket and sponge, because water may spill from the hose.
-
Empty the drain hose into the bucket and check the hose end for obvious blockages.
-
-
Step 12 Inspect the U-bend
-
Put a plastic tray under the U-bend pipework to catch water.
-
Undo the hand-tight plastic collars on the U-bend by hand.
-
Remove only the pipe section needed to check inside the U-bend.
-
Pour excess water into the sink and inspect the pipe for residue or buildup.
-
-
Step 13 Reassemble the drain pipework
-
Refit the U-bend pipework to the wall connection.
-
Hand-tighten the plastic collars until they are snug.
-
Reconnect the dishwasher waste pump hose to the drain connection.
-
Plug the dishwasher back in or turn the circuit breaker back on.
-
Run a drain or rinse cycle and check that water drains without leaks.
-
If the E25 error or drainage problem continues after the filter, impeller, drain hose, and U-bend are clear, the dishwasher may need further diagnosis of the drain system or pump. Repair didn't go as planned? Ask our Answers community for help.
