This guide will show you how to repair a crack in a generic plastic chair. The cracks this guide specifically addresses include partial cracks on the chair body/legs and full cracks on the chair spindle.

This guide focuses on how to repair a crack on the chair spindle. It involves making a new seal for the crack using super glue and baking soda and sanding it down to bring the broken area back to its original look.

Warning: Work in an area with good ventilation. Isopropyl alcohol is flammable. Additionally, wear protective clothing to avoid getting super glue on your clothes or skin.

Lay the broken chair such that the crack is parallel to the floor.

Wear gloves to minimize chemical contact on skin.
Dampen a rag with isopropyl alcohol.

Clean the surface of the crack with the dampened rag to remove all dust and debris.
Repeat on all sides of the crack (edges and backside).

Apply glue between the crack.
Then apply glue across the surface of the crack.

Hold the two glued pieces together for 30 seconds to allow the glue to bind to the chair.
Do not let the glue dry completely. The wet glue will need to bind with baking soda in the next step.

Pour baking soda over the crack until the glue is completely covered under a layer of baking soda.

Use your finger to distribute the baking soda in order to cover all parts of the crack.

Allow the baking soda to seal onto the super glue over the crack and wait for the mixture to dry.
After ten minutes, brush away some of the un-glued baking soda to check if the glue is solid.

Flip the chair over.
Repeat the procedure on the backside of the crack starting from step 4 and ending with step 8.
Avoid reapplying glue in between crack, since it has already been sealed.

Remove excess baking soda from both the front and back side of the crack.
Use water or isopropyl alcohol to remove fine grains around the repair site.

Sand off any excess layers of glue on both the front and backside of the chair using coarse sandpaper.
This step is optional and simply helps to return the chair to its original look.
It may take a while to rid the chair of all texture.
