Accessing the service program of your DeLonghi coffee maker can be useful for troubleshooting and performing maintenance checks. Press buttons 2 and 4 simultaneously, then power on coffee maker.

The power is usually a toggle switch on the back or bottom edge. In rare cases, you'd just have to plug in the machine to connect power.

This is optional, but if you'd like to keep the machine open to see what exactly is happening during the testing, you may wish to create a bypass, e.g. such a little tube, which simulates the mandrel so that the machine has the feeling that it is closed.

That's possible to do with many machines, and I find it useful.

To move the brewing unit up, press buttons 2 and 3.

You can now observe the brewing unit moving upwards until it stops automatically.

Now it goes to the brew position until it reaches the top of the microswitch and then it stops automatically.

You may repeat the process as often as necessary for you to find out e.g. if the lifting function is working at all.

With the brewing unit in position, press button 4 to start the water pump.

Observe the water flow to identify any potential leaks.

Especially with Saeco machines, it happens very often that they're leaking.

After having checked that there's nothing wrong with the drain, you may use this method to find out if the leak is somewhere on the brewing unit or on the spigot seals that dock here.

Use a flashlight to see clearly and check if it's all really tight.

Be aware that safety features may be bypassed in service mode.

Remove your fingers from moving parts to prevent injury.

Remember, working in service mode exposes you to the internal mechanics of the coffee maker.

To exit, disconnect the power, then plug it back in and restart the coffee maker.
