Trim away any loose threads of frayed fabric.

Insert the needle at one end of the tear, pulling the thread all the way through so the knot catches the fabric.

Bring the needle through the raw edges of the fabric, pushing it through both layers from the backside to the frontside. This creates a whipstitch.

Repeat this looping motion down the length of the tear, closely and evenly spacing the stitches.
