Introduction
Use this guide to replace a display with broken glass or malfunctioning pixels on your HP G71t-400 laptop.
The LCD display on your laptop is an output device consisting of multiple layers. In the case of a shattered or cracked screen, the layer of glass at the front of the display is at fault. Alternatively, in the case of malfunctioning pixels, other layers such as the backlight may be at fault. In any case, the entire display will have to be removed and replaced. This guide covers how to remove the entire LCD display to make way for a new one.
Steps in this guide can be reversed for installation of a replacement screen.
Use this guide as a safety reference if the screen is shattered to ensure that you do not injure yourself. Make sure that before you begin Step 1, the laptop is powered off and all power sources are disconnected from the system.
What you need

Lay the laptop down so the bottom is facing up.

Push the slide button, circled in photo 1, to release the battery.

Action in picture 2 shows the direction and release.

Tilt the battery back in the direction it popped up in and remove the battery.

This ensures there is no power in the system that could potentially short out any components.

Remove the stickers covering two screws on both sides just below the screen.

Unscrew the two screws.

Using the plastic opening tool to split the screen from the bezel or face of the device.

Disconnect the chord attaching the screen to the monitor.

The LCD screen is now detached from the device and ready for replacement.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
