Introduction
Use this guide to replace the battery or remove the battery before doing any work on the HP Elitebook 8460p. This step should be completed before removing anything else from the laptop or doing any work on the laptop.
The battery does not get in the way of most repairs, however, the battery supplies a constant power to the motherboard even when the laptop is turned off. It is imperative, to avoid damaging any computer components, that the battery is removed.
If there is a burnt smell coming from the laptop or the laptop battery is very warm to the touch, use this guide to remove it immediately to prevent the battery from overheating, failing, and potentially exploding.
IMPORTANT: if the battery is '''swollen''' or the shape is irregular, stop whatever you are doing and allow the battery to slowly discharge itself before removing it from the laptop casing.

On the back of the computer, slide the left switch towards the outside of the laptop until you hear a click.

Slide the battery away from the switches until it can be lifted away from the laptop.

Lift the battery away from the laptop.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
