Introduction
At the time of this writing (2026), the MP3 Pen is 20 years old and the pen is very likely to be dead. If you can find a replacement proprietary refill that isn't also 20 years old, this guide should make it easy to replace!
What you need
-
-
To access the ink, the pen part must be removed from the screw holding it to the MP3 player.
-
Make sure to remove the pen from the screw, and not just unscrew the MP3 player from the rest of the housing - there's a third piece in the middle.
-
-
-
-
Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the plastic screw holding the ink canister in, and remove the ink canister.
-
To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
