Introduction

Over time, the speaker may become muffled, distorted, or damaged due to impact, water damage, or internal failure. Replacing the speaker may return sound back to the device, saving you the cost of needing to buy a new navigation device. If your device produces no sound or creates distorted audio, the speaker may be damaged or disconnected. This guide will help you replace it or reconnect it. It's a good idea to wear an anti-static wrist strap to prevent damage to the internal components of the device.

What you need

Step 1 Case

Unplug and power off the device.

Step 2

Remove the four 5 mm T5 Torx screws securing the rear case.

Insert an opening pick into the seam between the front and back cover.
Carefully slide the opening pick around the perimeter of the device to release the clips securing the front and rear case.
Open the case with care not to strain the display ribbon cable or the microphone cable.
You may hear small snapping sounds as the clips release. Don't worry, this is normal.

Use tweezers to pull the speaker connector directly out of its socket.

Step 5

Lift the speaker out of the device to remove it.
If you can't gently remove it with your hands, use a plastic spudger to gently lift the speaker out of its groove.
