Introduction
Use this guide to replace an old or faulty graphics card (GPU) in your Dell Precision 7750.
A GPU (graphics processing unit) is a piece of hardware that is designed to rapidly manipulate and display images, videos, and animations. Beyond graphics, GPUs excel at parallel processing.
Before using this guide, ensure that the issue you are experiencing cannot be solved via software, and that you have a means to read your M.2 drives (solid state drives) should something go wrong.
Make sure to power off your system using the shutdown option and unplug it from AC power prior to beginning the procedure.
Additionally, discharge static electricity from your body before touching internal components by touching an unpainted metal surface on the laptop chassis for at least five seconds.
What you need
-
-
-
Place the laptop face-down on a clean table.
-
Remove the screws using a Phillips #0 screwdriver.
-
-
-
-
GPU: apply new thermal paste in an "x" shape for best results, uniform spread will be applied later when you're screwing the copper heatsink back on.
-
CPU: apply new thermal paste as a "line" for maximum performance, uniform spread will be applied later when you're screwing the copper heatsink back on.
-
Once both the GPU and CPU have new thermal paste, carefully lay the copper heatsink back into place and view Step 8 for reassembly.
-
Step 8: tighten instead of loosen in numbered order (1-8), and make multiple rounds tightening slightly until all eight screws are tight.
-
-
To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
