Go to step 1 ↓This guide tells you how to replace the battery in the Dell Latitude 5400 (P92G model). The battery allows your laptop to operate, therefore if your laptop has a defective battery, it may have symptoms such as excessive battery drain, won't charge, unexpected shutdowns, or only operates when plugged into an AC adapter. If you are experiencing any of these problems, please check the Power and Battery section of our troubleshooting resources for assistance prior to starting this repair.
Whenever you are performing an upgrade on the Dell Latitude 5400 that requires opening the laptop, follow the recommended procedure to perform an orderly shutdown, disconnect from any external power source(s), and use appropriate anti-static precautions and ESD-safe tools to avoid damaging internal components. If you notice that the internal battery of your laptop has become swollen or damaged, cease all work and employ the appropriate safety procedures. Loosen the eight captive screws that secure the lower case using a Phillips #1 screwdriver.

Use a spudger to pry the back panel away from the laptop.

Loosen the single captive screw that secures the battery to the palm rest assembly.
