      • Close the lid and turn the laptop over to access the back cover.

      • Remove the five 4 mm screws from the back of the laptop using a Phillips #0 screwdriver.

      • Loosen the two remaining captive screws using a Phillips #0 screwdriver.

      • Captive screws tend to have a slightly larger head than normal screws, so it is important to use the correct size screwdriver to avoid damaging the screw or the device.

      • To access the Dell Inspiron fan flip the device upside down.

      • When identifying parts in the device, the Dell logo on the battery pack should be upright.

      • The fan is fastened at the top left hand corner of the device.

      • Remove two 4 mm screws using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

      • Gently pull on the fan adapter until it is disconnected from the port.

      • Don't pull too hard on the adapter as this may damage the part.

      • Carefully lift the fan out of the slot.
