DeLonghi Nespresso Lattissima One Descaling

Video Guide
This guide was transcribed from a YouTube video.

What you need

    • Keep the power cord, plug, and controls dry while working around the water tank.

    • Check the orange descaling light before making coffee.

    • A slow orange blink means descaling is advisable.

    • A fast orange blink means descale as soon as possible.

    • A solid orange light means descale now because the machine won't function.

    • Plan about 20 minutes for the full descaling and rinse process.

    • Descale regularly in hard water areas to remove limescale and keep coffee tasting fresh.

    • Turn the machine so you can reach the water tank at the back.

    • Lift the water tank away from the machine and remove its lid.

    • Use scissors to cut the corner off the Nespresso descaler pouch.

    • Pour the descaling liquid into the water tank.

    • Descaling solution can irritate skin and eyes, so avoid splashes and rinse spills with water.

    • Fill the tank with fresh water up to the descaling mark, which is about halfway up the side.

    • Use filtered fresh water if available because it has less limescale and dirt.

    • Reinstall the water tank lid.

    • Push the descaling pipe into the milk function opening with the pipe pointing down.

    • Gently push the filled water tank into the back of the machine.

    • Place a jug that holds about 1 litre under the coffee outlet and the descaling pipe.

    • Make sure the jug can catch liquid from both outlets without overflowing.

    • Press the bottom Espresso button.

    • Watch for the two lower lights to flash and stay lit.

    • After a few seconds, only the bottom Espresso button should remain lit.

    • If the lights don't behave this way, remove the milk hose from the front, plug it back in, and press the bottom Espresso button again.

    • Keep the jug in place as descaling liquid flows from the coffee outlet and the milk function outlet.

    • The machine can dispense hot liquid, so keep your hands clear of both outlets.

    • Leave the machine running while the bottom Espresso button flashes.

    • Let the descaling liquid flow through the coffee outlet and milk function outlet until the tank is nearly empty and the jug is nearly full.

    • You may see limescale and coffee grinds collecting in the jug.

    • The cycle is complete when the flow stops and only the middle light remains on.

    • Don't drink or reuse the liquid collected during descaling.

    • Press the middle Lungo button to start the fresh water flush.

    • Let fresh water flush through the machine for about 5 minutes.

    • The middle Lungo button flashes while water flows.

    • Don't stop the rinse early because it clears remaining descaler from the machine.
