Introduction
Go to step 1 ↓I replaced my VVT solenoid at 111,000 km due to a suspected failure, despite an impeccable oil change schedule.
My initial problem was unfortunately not resolved; it must have still been working and had absolutely no trace of deposits, but here is a guide for anyone who wishes to replace this part ;)
Reminder: only the intake camshaft has variable valve timing (VVT) on H4D/H4Bt engines. Therefore, there is only one VVT solenoid at this location.
Guide shown on an H4D, applicable to the H4Bt.
-
-
-
Unscrew the 6 screws by hand or with a T50 socket.
-
Lift and set aside the engine hood.
-
-
-
-
Clean the area around the solenoid as best as you can. Once it is removed, the hole leads directly into the oil circuit: you do not want any contaminants inside.
-
-
-
Spray penetrating oil at the base of the solenoid in advance and let it sit.
-
-
-
Remove the VVT solenoid by pulling it straight out. The use of a tool is highly recommended. Rotating the solenoid to loosen it is a good idea.
-
Verify that the seal came out with the extracted part.
-
-
-
-
Plug the hole with something like paper towels, being very careful not to let any contaminants enter.
-
Clean the entire contact surface where the new solenoid will be installed. You may need to scrape it using tools.
-
-
-
Lubricate the solenoid with clean engine oil.
-
Insert the solenoid into the orifice until it stops, taking care not to scratch the walls.
-
Tighten the single 8 mm screw to 10 N·m.
-
Reconnect the solenoid connector.
-
-
-
Clear the OBD fault codes.
-
Start the engine and check that the original fault has disappeared. Also check that oil is not leaking from the new VVT solenoid.
-
Perform a road test while observing the engine behavior.
-
Once the engine is warm (hot oil), with the engine running on flat ground in neutral, run the "VVT After Sales" routine using a Renault diagnostic tool.
-
-
Proceed to clear the OBD error codes, then perform a test drive to see if the failure symptoms have disappeared.
Check that no oil is leaking from the solenoid.

Hello !
Merci
