    • The 'c-clamp' piece of the sternum strap fits over a plastic tube or ‘rail’ that is inside the backpack strap. At the bottom of this rail there is a fabric flap.

    • Pull back the fabric flap to expose where the rail ends. This is where the c-clamp was designed to be slid on and off.

    • At the exposed area at the base of the rail, slide the c-clamp back onto the rail.

    • Pull tightly on the fabric flap to expose the area.

    • Maneuver as if parallel parking a car. Start at an angle, slide partially onto the rail, and then straighten out.

    • This can be difficult to do, don’t be shy using some muscle!

    • Repeat the steps above on the other backpack strap.

This is helpful, except where do I find the replacement part! I contacted Patagonia and they no longer make it; they said to try a local sporting goods store or to send to Patagonia and they'll sew on a new daisy-chain version. My local REI does not have these parts either. Bummer!
