Introduction
Bosch Hand Mixer Set MFQ4080: After barely 2 years, the power cord broke right at the handle. At first, the insulation tore on one side, later on both. Then, a short circuit occurred during operation. It is striking that for such a weak cable (thin 2-pin stranded wire, 0.75 gauge), there is no proper cable storage. When tidying up the mixer, you are forced to wrap it tightly. This inevitably causes the cable to bend sharply at the handle exit point, making a cable break inevitable. I then sent my mixer to the Bosch home appliance service. The answer after a week was an offer for a new device for €78 (the new price in 2016 was only €48); no repair offer! There were 3 options to choose from: 1. Service according to the cost estimate (new device). 2. The defective device is sent back; a flat-rate fee for inspection of €33.90. 3. The defective device is disposed of free of charge.
I felt all of this was quite outrageous, because a torn cable can be seen in 2 seconds, and demanding €33.90 for this service is more than problematic. I chose pos. 2 and looked for a repair guide. My research on the internet revealed a Russian video on YouTube where it was quite easy to see how the mixer is disassembled. After playing it slowly and making various stops, you could see the many plastic eyelets/noses to watch out for and the direction in which the two gray covers were to be pulled off. Caution and sensitivity were required.
Warning: this is not work for the impatient or those with poor motor skills! When taking the mixer apart, proceed slowly and carefully, especially when the two halves of the device are pulled apart. It can happen that a lot of loose parts come out that have to be put back into their correct position after repair. There is only a single multi-tooth screw on the bottom of the device; everything else is plugged in inside, so be careful during disassembly. I shortened the power cord according to the connection plugs, attached small cable lugs (as in the original) to the cable ends with crimping pliers (electrician's tool), and mounted them to the connections. Also, pay attention to the cable feed-through on the handle; the cable length must be adjusted exactly to the connections. Work time approx. 45 min. Then carefully reassemble everything. Pay attention to the ejector mechanism; perform a functional check before reassembly! Be careful with the cover/surround of the control elements; small plastic noses can break off quickly. If the housing halves fit together easily, you should be done. The Russian video is named "Aufmachen - MFQ4080.mp4". I cannot upload it here (error message).
