Introduction
Trying to replace your Audio-Technica ATH-M20xBT microphone? Start here. This guide will walk you through the steps needed to replace the microphone in your headphones.
Many factors could be making you feel like your microphone needs replacing. But there could be an easier fix to your microphone than having to do a full replacement. Things like your Bluetooth connection, the cleanliness of your headphone jack, as well as your Wi-Fi connection could be at fault for your faulty mic. (Pun intended)
Before proceeding with a full replacement, consider troubleshooting. Our team has created guides that may resolve your issue:
- Audio-Technica ATH-M20xBT Bluetooth Not Pairing
- Audio-Technica ATH-M20xBT Not Receiving Audio When Headphones Are Plugged In
While we do not currently have a dedicated Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide, connection issues can still impact how your microphone sounds to others. Signs that Wi-Fi may be the problem include compressed or robotic-sounding audio, audio cutting in and out, or sudden drops in quality during calls. Keep in mind that Wi-Fi does not affect the microphone’s raw recording quality, so if your audio consistently sounds poor across all uses, a replacement may be necessary.
Beware! This guide involves desoldering. Take care to avoid contact with hot solder, as it can cause burns or damage internal components. Ensure the device is powered off and fully disconnected from any power source before beginning work.
Note the part you are replacing is on the right side of the headphones.
