What you need

Step 1 Locate the SIM tray

If a case is installed, remove it.
Locate the SIM eject hole on the left side of the SIM tray.

Step 2 Insert SIM tool

Insert a SIM eject tool (or an unfolded paper clip, if you don't have a tool) into the SIM eject hole.
Do not insert the tool into the microphone next to the SIM tray (circled).

Step 3 Post-ejection

Once the SIM tray pops out, remove the SIM eject tool.
A "SIM card is not installed" message will appear on the screen, provided the phone is turned on.

Step 4 Remove the tray and SIM card(s)

Grip onto the SIM tray, and pull it out.
If a SIM card can't be removed, and one slot is empty, try pushing a fingernail through one of two slots (both circled) in the SIM tray.

Conclusion

To re-insert the SIM card(s), insert them contact-side-up, ensuring that the notches are aligned with the notches in the tray. Then, re-insert the tray, with the eject hole facing left, provided the Zenfone is screen-side-up.
