Introduction

If your Asus L406M isn't producing audio that is clear and without any distortion, you may need to replace the speakers.

Your speakers, when damaged or faulty, can lead to the laptop producing no sound or sound that sounds leaky or distorted.

Before using this guide, use the following troubleshooting guide to check and make sure your audio issues involve the speakers:

If the problem persists, use this guide to help you replace the Asus L406M's speakers.

Before you start: unplug the laptop from its power cable and shutdown your device off. Now you're ready to replace your speakers and get great sound quality again!

What you need

Step 1 Lower Case

Use an opening tool to remove each of the two rubber feet near the laptop hinges.
The rubber feet are connected using adhesive, so you'll have to use a little bit of force to get them off. If you intend to reuse the feet, take care not to warp or tear them.

Step 2

Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the two 6.4 mm-long silver screws.

Step 3

Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the remaining eleven 6.4 mm-long black screws securing the lower case.

Step 4

Insert an opening pick or opening tool into the seam between the lower case and chassis.
Pry around the entire perimeter until the lower case is fully released.
Remove the lower case.

Step 5 Battery

Remove the two 3.2 mm-long Phillips #0 screws that secure the battery.
Disconnect the battery connector cable and the speaker cable from their motherboard sockets.

Carefully unseat and remove the battery.
Take care not to bend, warp, twist, or puncture the battery.

Unseat and remove the old speakers.
