Introduction

If there is a lag between pressing the Unlock button on your key fob and the doors responding, it may be time for a battery replacement. The following guide will walk users through how to replace the battery in the key fob for a 2019 Volvo S60 and restore functionality to the key. You will need a flathead screwdriver and a replacement battery to complete this repair. The key should not be used if anything indicates the battery has been damaged or has begun to leak.

Place the key with the Volvo logo facing up and the keyring loop facing you.
Slide the small latch on the left to the side, and lift the cover off.

Slide the second latch under the front cover, and lift the rear cover off.
This will reveal an internal, physical key on one side and a round battery cover on the other side.

Use a flathead screwdriver to twist the battery cover counterclockwise into the Open position.
Lift the battery cover to remove it.

Remove the battery.
Insert the replacement with the + side facing out.
Make sure to press the new battery down until it catches.
It is recommended to only minimally touch the battery directly with your fingers.

Reposition the battery cover over the battery and use the screwdriver to turn clockwise to the Close position.

Refit the outer covers in the manner they were removed.
The rear cover does not have a logo and can be snapped into place first, followed by the front cover with the Volvo logo.
When the covers are securely clicked into place, you should see no gaps along the seams.
The key should be functional immediately and can be tested by using it normally to unlock the vehicle.
