Background and Identification

The Steris Caviwave is a freestanding ultrasonic cleaning system that is designed to clean, flush, lubricate, and dry instruments before final wash and disinfection cycles. Founded in 1985, Steris Corporation is an Irish medical equipment company that specializes in sterilization and surgical products for the U.S. healthcare system. Steris produces steam sterilizers also known as autoclaves, which are a vital aspect of the decontamination and sterilization process performed by sterile processing departments in healthcare facilities.

The Steris Caviwave is designed to provide micromechanical scrubbing at a frequency of 132 kHz. Steris sterilizer machines can eliminate living organisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and spores. The Steris Caviwave comes in two sizes, a small model and a larger model. Both sizes include the name “Steris” printed in capital letters on the front face of the machine. An array of buttons and controls is also placed on the front face of the sterilizer. Typically, these sterilizers include wheels on their base for mobility.

Common issues for Steris sterilizers often include aborted cycles, steam leaking from the door, no power, and water utility failure alarms. To find out about the potential causes for these issues and to take corrective measures, please refer to the Quick Troubleshooting Guide by Steris.
