Background
The Panasonic Toughbook CF-33 is a detachable tablet/laptop that is ruggedized for use in harsh conditions. Panasonic released four generations of hardware variants under the CF-33 model name, beginning with this model (Mk1) in February 2017. Panasonic continues providing software and driver support under Windows 10 as of February 2026; the Mk1's 6th/7th gen Intel Core processors are not officially supported by Windows 11.
The CF-33 Mk1 features a magnesium alloy chassis with ABS and elastomer edges for durability. It carries MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461F as well as IP65 certifications. The tablet alone is rated to withstand a 5' drop, with the keyboard base attached it has a 4' drop rating.
The CF-33 was configurable with a variety of peripherals targeted to different industries including a barcode scanner, SmartCard reader, fingerprint reader, GPS receiver, 4G WWAN cellular network card, DB-9 serial port, and additional USB 2.0 port. Many of these peripherals are difficult or costly to obtain on the secondary market.
Identification
The full model number is in the format "CF-33*xxxxxx" where the character immediately after CF-33, represented by the asterisk here, denotes the generation. Mk1 variants will have A/B/C/D/E/L/M/N/P/Q/V/W at this position in the model number. Within those, D/E/P/Q variants have a 6th gen Core processor, all others are 7th gen.
If you have any other character in this position then your model is a Mk2 (G/J/K/R/S/X/1/2/3,) Mk3 (T/U/4/5/6/7,) or Mk4 (Y/8/9/0) and some or all of the following information may not apply.
An easy way to visibly distinguish generations is the Mk1 has the front camera set into the silver-colored magnesium housing with the black top edge bumper running straight across above it. The Mk2 onward have a black bezel that protrudes downward from the bumper and surrounds the camera cutout.
