Background

Microsoft's Surface Pro 12 (sold as the Surface Pro, 13-inch, 12th Edition) was announced on June 16, 2026, alongside the Surface Laptop 8. This Surface Pro tablet has a Snapdragon X2 Plus or Elite processor with a neural processing unit rated at up to 80 TOPS for on-device Copilot AI features — up from 45 TOPS in the Surface Pro 11. The chassis, display options, detachable keyboard with stylus support, and removable SSD carry over largely unchanged from the Surface Pro 11.

The Surface Pro 12 starts at $1,499.99 and can be ordered in the following colors: Platinum, Black, and Dune.

Identification

The Surface Pro devices all look very similar. You can identify your Surface Pro model by the 4-digit number printed on the bottom edge under the kickstand. The consumer Surface Pro 12 has model number 2076 — the same number Microsoft used for the Surface Pro 11. If your device shows 2076, check the processor in Settings (Snapdragon X2 indicates a Surface Pro 12; Snapdragon X indicates a Surface Pro 11). Business variants carry model numbers 2085 (Snapdragon) and 2103 (Intel).

For alternative ways to identify your device, refer to Microsoft's official identification guide.

LCD vs. OLED

The Surface Pro 12 comes with the option of an LCD or OLED display. To figure out which display your device has, you'll need to know which processor is in your Surface Pro. To do this, open the Settings application and navigate to System About. Under Device Specifications you should see Processor listed. This is how the processors correspond to display type:

  • Snapdragon X2 Plus (10 Core): LCD
  • Snapdragon X2 Elite (12 Core): OLED
