The Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 v1.0 is known for its design that promotes a more natural posture to reduce wrist strain and other repetitive stress injuries. The keyboard was a massive success, exceeding the sales forecasts early on and selling over 600,000 units per month at its peak. This device was released in August 2012 at a retail price of $49.95 and was discontinued around early 2024 to shift focus to its Surface accessories and other business priorities.
