Background
The Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 v1.0 is known for its design that promotes a more natural posture to reduce wrist strain and other repetitive stress injuries. The keyboard was a massive success, exceeding the sales forecasts early on and selling over 600,000 units per month at its peak. This device was released in August 2012 at a retail price of $49.95 and was discontinued around early 2024 to shift focus to its Surface accessories and other business priorities. This laptop became a go-to keyboard in corporate offices especially in professions that uses a lot of typing. This model was later slightly revised for business bulk purchases in 2018.
Identification
This model is identified by a silver trim that goes around the keyboard and splits the wrist rest near the middle. There is also a zoom slider just above the spacebar. The ‘Microsoft’ text in the top right of the keyboard is colored white, differentiating it from the business model.
