Background and Identification

Maquet (stylized as MAQUET) is a multinational German company that produces equipment for surgical workplaces, anaesthesia systems, cardiovascular devices, and workstations for intensive care. Maquet has three main business divisions: Surgical Workplaces, Critical Care, and Cardiovascular. In 2000, Maquet was acquired by Getinge Group, a Swedish global medical technology company. Maquet is now one of three business units of Getinge Group.

A ventilator is a machine that provides mechanical ventilation by moving breathable air into and out of a person’s lungs to deliver breaths to a patient who is breathing insufficiently or physically unable to breathe. Modern ventilators are computerized microprocessor-controlled machines that are primarily used in intensive care medicine, home care, emergency medicine, and anesthesiology. Ventilators are sometimes called “respirators,” though medical terminology uses the word “respirator” to refer to a protective face-mask.

Maquet Medical ventilators include the name “MAQUET” printed in capital letters in various places on the machine. Maquet ventilators usually include a digital display and a tall, rectangular body mounted on wheels for easy transportation. Some Maquet ventilators feature digital touchscreens for ease-of-use. Maquet produces ventilators for various applications, including general purpose ventilators for most patients, and one designed for neonates and infants. Some ventilator systems are upgradeable, allowing users to extend the usefulness of the machine as new ventilation technology develops.
